Cultural Reinvention is a series of works that form a new dialogue with the past by reinventing the image of the veil.  While exploring traditional dress in the MENA region, I wanted to integrate these principles into more contemporary and modern formats to present how tradition can elevate our identity and communities. I’m using fabric to weave the history of Yemeni women together by reinterpreting the depiction of a traditional Yemeni niqab by using Bedouin and kilim patterns and decorations across MENA with contemporary designs. I admire the consistent change within history through textiles, this piece initiated my interest in how fabric can voice hidden and miscommunicated histories
